Ingredients
Smoothie
- 400 g ripe melon, such as cantaloupe, peeled, seeded, cut into chunks rounded
- 300 g ripe peaches, pitted, cut into chunks rounded
- 15 ml lemon juice rounded
Method
Method
- Blend the melon, peaches and lemon juice together until fully smooth, about 1 minute.
- Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
Notes
- Don’t add water or juice. Ripe melon and peach release enough of their own juice when blended to reach a good drinking consistency; added liquid only dilutes the flavour without improving the texture.
- Use genuinely ripe fruit. A melon that smells fragrant at the stem end and peaches that give slightly to gentle pressure are what give this smoothie real sweetness without needing any added sugar.
- Drink it fresh. Both fruits oxidize and lose their bright colour within an hour, even with the lemon juice slowing it down.
- If the smoothie is too thick, thin with a splash of water rather than juice, to keep the fruit flavour clean.
Ingredient substitutions
- Cantaloupe can be honeydew or another sweet melon variety.
- A handful of ice cubes blended in makes it more of a frozen-style drink.
- A few mint leaves blended through add a fresh, herbal note.
